Sustainability Research Internship in Bali

  • Full-Time
  • On-Site

Job Description:

Location: Bali, Indonesia (On-site only)

Duration: 4-6 months

Compensation: Unpaid Internship (with potential for full-time transition)

Role Overview

Do you want to be part of hands-on research in which you run experiments, test ideas, and contribute to solutions that could scale globally?

Are you ready to explore Bali and a new culture, while making an impact with a team pushing the edge of AI, sustainability, and innovation?

Join our research division in Bali as we expand our team to accelerate our sustainability initiatives. This role is for researchers passionate about solving critical environmental challenges. We have ongoing projects in waste-to-hydrogen development, duckweed cultivation, and hydroponic experiments, and we are seeking interns to help us grow this department and conduct experiments. You will contribute to technologies with the potential for significant global impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development in green hydrogen production, hydroponic systems for aquatic plants such as duckweed, or other sustainability projects.
  • Design and manage experiments to optimize key parameters, yield, and efficiency.
  • Collect and analyze experimental data, using statistical methods and modeling software to interpret results.
  • Prepare detailed research reports, literature reviews, and technical documentation.
  • Utilize AI tools for predictive modeling of biological or chemical processes and for analyzing large research datasets.

Role-relevant skills

  • You are currently pursuing, or have recently completed, your Bachelor's/Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.
  • You have a strong interest in sustainability, entrepreneurship, AI, and innovation.
  • Initiative-taking: Take charge of your own work and proactively spot errors to report to your mentor without being prompted.
  • Detail-oriented: Pay attention to potential code errors when running simulations to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Trend-spotting: Identify patterns in data to inform analysis and decision-making in sustainability research.
  • Perseverance (in problem-solving): Be headstrong and persistent, as finding optimal parameters involves significant trial and error.
  • Communication: Converse effectively within the team and across different departments to ensure smooth collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Public speaking: Confidently present research findings to the team, other departments, and potentially to clients. Engage the audience with clear, well-structured insights.

What We Are Looking For

  • Can-do Attitude: You have a proactive mindset and an entrepreneurial spirit. You are self-driven and can thrive in fast-paced work environments.
  • Learning Agility: You are committed to continuous learning, adapting in dynamic environments, and tackling problems head-on. You can quickly adapt to complex systems and new technologies.
  • Ambitious: You are highly adaptive and curious, and motivated to learn new skills.
  • Team-oriented: You enjoy working in a team setting and are energized by interaction.
  • Independent working: You can effectively manage your own time, work, and motivation without external supervision.
  • International: You have a global mindset and can work in a diverse team.
  • English: You have professional working proficiency in English.
  • AI Tech-savvy (a huge plus!): You have prior experience in leveraging AI to accelerate workflows.

What We Offer

  • Entrepreneurial experience: Here, your input is valued, and your output is tangible. This internship also provides direct exposure to how companies scale operations.
  • Escape from the corporate routine: This is not a typical 9-to-5 corporate internship. It’s a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where you’ll work alongside an international team, participate in community activities, and build global networks.
  • 25-hour work week: Work hours are 11 AM to 5 PM, providing flexibility to balance professional development with life in Bali.
  • On-site housing: Housing options are available based on preference, from quiet, focused environments to collaborative co-living spaces.
  • International workplace: You will be part of an international community of entrepreneurs, building meaningful networks and relationships.
  • Networking: We actively support connections to opportunities that align with career goals.
  • Future Opportunities: Many of our interns go on to join EX Venture in part-time or full-time roles after the program. This internship could be the start of something much bigger.
  • Free lunch: We offer a healthy, nutritious lunch every workday at the office.

Important Note: This is an unpaid internship. We do not cover accommodation, visa, or flights. What we offer is the opportunity to build practical skills, free lunch, work on real business challenges, and gain experience in a high-growth environment.

Relocation: Mandatory relocation to Bali, Indonesia. No remote options available.

Start Date: ASAP

We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all of the listed requirements. We value diverse experiences and are open to candidates who are eager to grow and contribute to our team.
